Chromebooks

Upon enrolling in the Beaverton School district, students are issued a username and password.

Username:  student ID@bsd48.org  Example:  123456@bsd48.org

Password:  Students initial passwords can be found in the ParentVUE app.
Login to your ParentVUE account > Select your student > Student Info > Additional Info > Other Data

If you need your password reset come to the library.

Students have a link to all common Student Apps, including Canvas, Gmail,  Library Resources, StudentVUE and others. 

To access Apps for Students from a browser, go to Beaverton School District Home Page > Student tab > Apps for Students

To access Apps for Students from a district Chromebook, use the Student bookmark.

Canvas is the learning management system where students and parents can find information on all their classes - including syllabi, assignments, and Zoom links.

Canvas Student Login

1. Go to the District Home Page
2. Click on Students near the top, then Canvas, then BSD Student
3. To login use your Student ID number (not your full email address) and the password that you normally use to access school systems.

Students have access to the Google suite of apps, which includes Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, YouTube, and many others.  To access these apps, students login with their district account.

Google Login - use your student ID@bsd48.org and the password that you normally use to access school systems.

StudentVue is a web portal that allows students to access their grades, attendance, report cards and more.

StudentVUE Login

1. Go to the District Home Page
2. Click on Students near the top, then StudentVUE
3. To login use your Student ID number (not your full email address) and the password that you normally use to access school systems.

Teachers sometimes use Zoom and post the link on their Canvas page.

For the best Zoom experience, please follow these recommended practices:

1. Restart your Chromebook every morning.
2. Work somewhere in the house where you have a good wifi connection.
3. Try to limit other streaming on your device and in the house, if possible .
4. Close all unnecessary tabs and apps.
5. Before going to Canvas, open Zoom and login with SSO (see login video below for more info).
6. Open Canvas and follow your teacher's link or use the Session ID and Password.
7. If you are still having problems review the additional troubleshooting information below.

More Troubleshooting

Many users occassionally have problems running zoom on their chromebooks. Listed below are some things you can try in an effort to resolve the problem.

Clear Chrome Browser Cache And Cookies

1. Open Chrome browser
2. Click three dots to the far right of address bar
3. Select More Tools – Clear browsing data
4. Next to Time Range, pull down and select All Time
5. Confirm Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files are selected
6. Click Clear data button
7. Close Chrome completely, restart Chromebook, login, and re-open Chrome browser.

Login Using Zoom App And Browser

1. Login to both the Zoom app and zoom.us in your browser using your school account (both with SSO) before joining a Zoom session. This video may help:

2. Try the teacher's link again and open in a browser window.

Update Chrome OS

1. At the bottom of the left panel, select About Chrome OS.
2. Under "Google Chrome OS," you'll find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses.
3. Select Check for updates. If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.

Use Browser Window Instead Of Zoom App

1. You can also try running your Zoom session in a browser window instead of the Zoom app.
   Ask your teacher for the Meeting ID and Password instead of a link and use that to join a session directly.

Use A Different Device

1. If you have another device in the home such as a PC, Mac, or even a smart phone try connecting to your Zoom session with it instead of a chromebook.
2. To access student apps on a personal device go to the district home page, click on Student at the top, then Apps for Students.

Hardwire Network Connection

1. If you have an ethernet cable and USB Ethernet adapter you might be able to hardwire your chromebook to your network instead of using WiFi. Doing so will often result in a faster, more stable connection.

If you need your password reset come to the library.

Some problems, including browser, app and password issues can be solved by clearing the Cache and Cookies in your Chrome browser. (Steps may vary depending on Chrome version)

1. Open Chrome browser
2. Click three dots to the far right of address bar
3. Select More Tools – Clear browsing data
4. Next to Time Range, pull down and select All Time
5. Confirm Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files are selected
6. Click Clear data button
7. Close Chrome completely, restart Chromebook, login, and re-open Chrome browser.

If your Chromebook will not power on, follow these steps to either solve the problem or get information for a Help Desk ticket.

Try a hardware reset:

1. Hold down the power button until the Chromebook shuts off. This could take as long as 30 seconds. The screen and light on the left side should be out.
2. Plug the Chromebook into the power adapter and then plug the adapter into the wall.
3. Hold down the refresh key (circular arrow above the 4-key) and tap the power button.  Release the refresh key once the Chromebook starts coming on.

If your device does not turn on:

1. Do you see any lights when you plug in the charger?  (Yellow indicates it is plugged in; Blue indicates it is on or has a full charge.)
2. Try plugging in the charger on the right side of the Chromebook to see there are lights or if it turns on.
3. Can you borrow a charger to determine if the problem is the Chromebook or the charger?

Still will not power on?  Please submit a Help Desk ticket and include all your troubleshooting results.
