School Learning Plan
Aloha High School
District Goal: WE empower all students to achieve post high school success
A Slice Of Our Story:
Aloha High School now has a set of Core Values, developed and approved through the Aloha Leadership Team. These Core Values include beliefs and attitudes that will guide our behavior and relationships with others. They are the important and enduring ideals we strive for, those to be shared by the members of our culture, about what is good or desirable and what is not. We want these values exert significant influence on the behavior of the individuals within our culture and serve as broad guidelines in all situations. These should be the filters for all of our decision-making from this day forward. Aloha High School’s Core Values are:
We Work Hard
We Build Trust
We Express Gratitude
We Own It
We Are Worth It
Out of this work, the Aloha Leadership team developed a Mission Statement and wrestled with our school tagline. Our Mission Statement identifies the reason or reasons for our existence. Through lots of discussion and debate, the team came to consensus around the following Aloha High School Mission:
We educate, empower, and inspire through our strong community and rigorous academic practice.
In 2018-19, the existing Aloha tagline of “Grit to Gold” was a point of debate for some time and the Aloha Leadership Team decided to tackle the questions around its appropriateness. A tagline is intended to let you quickly and efficiently sum up what an organization is all about and leave a lasting impression during a short encounter with the recipient. Again, through lots of transparent discussion and gathering input from stakeholders, we rallied around a change. Our new tagline is:
We are Warriors. We are Ohana.
The work will continue as we also develop a set of enduring school goals. These goals will be strategic objectives which outline expected outcomes and guide our efforts. These goals will direct activities, define performance standards, constrain the pursuit of unnecessary goals and function as incentives. To help in these efforts, The Aloha Leadership Team will now have subcommittees focused on school culture, systems and instruction. We will also expand student voice in this work.
